I always find that places that are named after something are typically no longer like that...
Green Valley usually means 'Formerly Green Valley - now clear cut area where forest used to be, but is now filled with houses and Starbucks coffee shops'
Clearwater, as in Clearwater Florida means, well, gucky water now.
Grand Canyon - is still pretty grand.
Cockatoo was no exception. I asked a resident 'Where are all the cockatoos?' He replied "For the most part the townfolk killed most of them off a long time ago." True story folks. I would never - ever - use the word "townfolk" but there might be cockies around someplace.
I looked all around for cockatoos, but unfortunately I couldnt get any pictures because my tripod was mysteriously damaged.

I did, however, manage to spot this little guy in the trees outside of town. A yellow tailed black cockatoo! Forgive the grainy zoom shot with big lens, teleconverter, and high speed film.
