This page will give you some common Australian slang or words that are used differently, and appropriate Canadian translation.

G'day mate: G'day eh?
How ya going mate?: How's it going eh?
G'donya mate!: Well done dude.
bubbler: a fountain you drink out of
jumper: a sweater
the bonnet (Of a car): the hood
the boot (of a car): the trunk
fair dinkum!: Ya don't say. And according to Chris Doherty of Blacktown "It is the truth." Thanks for the note Chris.
billycart: a go-kart a kid would make. So a kid that does this sort of thing is called a billycarter. Boy did I laugh when I heard people refer to other kids as a 'champion billycarter' since the Billy Carter I remember was certainly no champion, except to those who liked Billy Beer. For those of you who are still unsure of what the hell I am talking about, Billy Carter was Jimmy Carter's brother. If you are still unsure about what I am talking about, Jimmy Carter, you know former US president... sheesh. Sometimes you have to lead people by the hand
billabong: a section of a dried up river where it is still wet.
aluminum here is pronounced Al-loo-min-ee-yum.
footpath: the sidewalk
push-bike: a bicycle
slippery-dip: a kids slide
grid iron: American style football (not Canadian rules!)

There is enough slang to fill a book - in fact, I have a book of Australian slang - tons of stuff!
