Where is the Daintree Rainforest?

The Daintree Rainforest is located near Cairns, Queensland. It is a REAL rainforest, not just one of these places that refer to themselves as rainforests for tourism purposes. In fact, this rainforest is also on the list of protected sites from the World Heritage Listing.

There was a lot to see and to do around the rainforest. There is the Kuranda Scenic Skyway and Scenic Railway. The skyway is the longest cable-car (like ski-lift) in the world. It took over 40 minutes to go one-way. The railway drives you through the rainforest.

It is amazing to see just how big the trees are and how dense the forest is. It is filled with life of all sorts.

There was wild pepper growing on vines, huge termite nests taller than myself, lizards, birds, more birds, huge trees, bird eating spiders (like the Golden Orb Spider)

We also went through part of the rainforest on a World War II aquatic army duck. It is a troop transport that holds about 30 people and can drive through the bush, and is also equipped with a huge propellor on the back. When in the water it floats and the propeller lets you drive down rivers. Watch out for the crocs and the snapping turtles.

Trees tend to grow on other trees in the rainforest and the sounds can get very loud. In fact there are some insects that make such a loud buzzing noise that hearing damage can result with prolonged exposure.
